Dominique Giroud and Giroud Vins SA
How many bottles does Giroud Vins produce each year? "That's a very good question," smiles the winemaker, who won't answer, even though he knows the figures off by heart. He is about to sign an agreement to create several sales outlets in China.
Born in Chad in 1971, this outspoken, friendly man knows what he wants, even if it means defending some very strong political positions a few years ago. He has opened five Wine Universe shops (offering wines from all over the world) and now exports to ten countries. His subsidiary in Singapore has a restaurant, a shop and a wine bar... In all, Giroud Vins employs around a hundred people.
Finally, in 2008, he opened more than just a cellar in Sion: a luxurious, cutting-edge wine tourism centre. A strategist and aesthete, he has the ability to identify the tastes and habits of consumers in Europe and Asia without resting on his laurels. "The mistake is to believe that you make the best wine in the world. So, while remaining in the regional vein, we need to "adapt our products in the medium term to suit the markets we are targeting".
On 6 May, he launched his Rolls: a prestige edition of the Constellation blend, cuvée 2011, produced by oenologist Michel Rolland. With his characteristic attention to detail, he obtained the agreement of SICPA to print the labels, adorned with a painting by Roger Pfund, using Swiss banknote inks.
