Justice stalls! Unable to unleash her fury on her usual targets, Marie Parvex, from the Morning Sundayfound a convenient excuse to bring the Giroud affair out of the wardrobe: if Dominique Giroud, without harming anyone, is able to continue on his merry way out of the spotlight, it's because the Valais Public Prosecutor's Office is letting cases drag on! Out of disorganisation, or even (as one contributor to his article of 12 March 2023 suggests) to 'protect' him. Good grief!
Unluckily for the journalist, the calendar often works out well: just 3 days after the publication of the Sunday title of the Morning Sunday owned by Tamedia, the newspaper with the largest circulation in French-speaking Switzerland, not one, not two, but three rulings by the Swiss Federal Court brought an end to the frenzied attacks by the Interprofession de la Vigne et du Vin du Valais (IVV) against the oenologist. As a reminder, the IVV had denounced alleged acts of unfair competition, fraud, unfair management and forgery of documents. Dominique Giroud's allegedly illegal behaviour lasted until 2009, or even 2011. In a rare move, the Federal Court ordered the IVV to pay the costs, a possibility provided for by law when a person "brings a case before the authorities in an unfounded or malicious manner".
Crisp, isn't it? On the one hand, a judiciary that is not moving forward to 'protect' Dominique Giroud, and on the other, the highest judicial authority that is clearing his name for good on trumped-up charges. Let's bet that this time, Marie Parvex will certainly feel that procedures often move too fast in our beautiful country!
